The Rock Football club Marsa II has won the maiden edition of Mallam Musa Amadu Memorial Unity and peace soccer championship, Marsa District in Zangon Kataf Local Government area of Kaduna state.
Finals of the soccer championship played on Saturday at the football field of LEA primary school Marsa, between the young scorers football club Rikawan and the Rock football club Marsa II, ended three goals to one (3-1goals) in favor of the latter, through penalty kicks, after ninety minutes goalless encounter.
The soccer championship which began a forth-night ago, had six participating football teams within Marsa District, initiated and sponsored by Mr Thomas Gyang, an illustrious son of the area, who is the special adviser to Governor Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai of Kaduna state, Bureau of Budget Monitoring and Price intelligence.
Rock FC Marsa II, Champion of the tournament went home with a giant trophy, medals, two footballs, sets of jerseys and cash price of N300,000, young scorers FC Rikawan came second and smiled home with medals, two footballs , sets of jersey and N150,000 cash prize.
Rikawan young Stars won the third position haven beaten Lucky stars MarsaII by a lone goal, also went home with a football, medals, sets of jerseys and N75,000 as reward.
The rest participating football clubs in the soccer competition were also rewarded with consolation prizes along with referees and organizers.
The most valuable player Kazabiri Marsa II FC,Shedack Thomas, the best goal scorer and Enoch Sidi the best goals keeper of the tournament also smiled home with prizes.
In her speech before the presentation of trophies and prizes, Mrs Victoria Musa Amadu, widow of the late District Head being honored, appreciated and blessed the initiator and sponsor of the championship in memory of her beloved husband, saying it will comfort the family , serves as motivator for good leadership as well as fosters peace, unity and development in the community the state and country in general.
Mrs Musa Amadu called on the youth to imbibe the spirit of discipline, hard work , justice, patriotism and the fear of God, so as to attract blessings that will promote their development and that of their families and society in general.
Distributing trophies and prizes to winners, His Highness Luka Kogithe present District Head of Marsa thanked and blessed the initiator/ sponsor of the soccer event and urged youth in the area value good relationship, tolerance, justice, forgiveness, hard work, unity and peaceful co-existence the community is known for, adding that these are good virtues and pillars of personal, family, and community prosperity that must be sustained.
Fielding questions from journalists, Mr. Thomas Gyang who is press-shy, the sponsor of the soccer championship said the late District Head, Mallam Musa Amadu was a good father/leader who contributed to the development of the community. According to Gyang , the tournament was one of the ways to immortalize the late District Head , mobilize people of the area, especially the youth to value and imbibe the spirit of discipline, hard work, patriotism, team work, and love of God which are virtues for personal and general development.
Mr.Gyang added as a former footballer, who knows that soccer is not only for pleasure, but a business and job provider, the tournament was a means to explore hidden talents in youths for sponsorship to bigger football clubs and academy within and outside the country.
He expressed appreciation to God, the footballers and organizers that the competition was a huge success and peaceful and has identified five players who have been listed by a special football administrators for grooming for sponsorship to bigger clubs and soccer academics, especially the one established by the APC government of Kaduna state for youth empowerment.
Mr.Gyang appealed to well meaning sons and daughters of Marsa District to come together and develop the youth and their community as their contribution to nation building.
